Real-Time Monitoring of Consolidated Free Cash-Flow Using Power BI - Agri-food sector
We were approached to develop a tool for real-time monitoring of consolidated Free Cash-Flow. The main challenge was to understand and replicate the behavior of the SAP BFC consolidation software within Power BI, as the consolidation process is typically monthly, while our goal was to track indicators throughout the month.
1. Replicating SAP BFC Consolidation Logic
The first step involved a deep technical and functional analysis of SAP BFC. This allowed us to reproduce its consolidation logic within Power BI, adapting it to a more dynamic, real-time context.
2. Historical Mapping of Local SAP Accounts
A key challenge was building a historical mapping between local SAP accounting accounts and consolidated accounts. This enabled us to construct a consolidated balance sheet in the SAP BFC format, which served as the foundation for calculating key balance sheet indicators such as:
By connecting via DirectQuery to a Power BI P&L dataset, we built a composite model by combining this data with our Cash Flow dataset. This allowed us to calculate indicators based on the Net Sales function, notably.:

By connecting via DirectQuery to a Power BI P&L dataset, we built a composite model by combining this data with our Cash Flow dataset. This allowed us to calculate indicators based on the Net Sales function, notably.:
- DIO (Days Inventory Outstanding)
- DSO (Days Sales Outstanding)
- DPO (Days Payable Outstanding)
- Gained a clear understanding of SAP BFC’s technical and functional mechanisms
- Took ownership of the Power BI data model
- Can now independently evolve the model to meet future requirements

With a long-standing collaboration with an international client and increasing involvement in high-impact projects, Winston has progressively established a strategic role within the Data team.
Since 2024, Winston has strengthened its teams with specialized profiles, including Data Architects, to provide targeted support and help reduce the workload of the client’s Data team. Thanks to our in-depth knowledge of internal tools, our teams quickly ramped up and became autonomous in handling complex business requests requiring both technical expertise and a strong grasp of the Data Platform.

Our scope of intervention is structured around several key areas:
- Interface between Data and Finance teams: We ensure smooth communication between the two departments, actively listening to business needs and aligning them with the technical standards of the platform.
- Power BI platform management: We administer and secure the workspaces related to Finance transformation projects (including the implementation and management of RLS). We also proposed a versioning system to foster collaboration on Power BI semantic models.
- Data flow maintenance: We contribute to the medallion architecture of the Data Platform by developing data integration flows as part of various projects. Our familiarity with the environment also allows us to directly handle data integration tasks.
- Monitoring and incident management: With access to the client’s databases, we can analyze and resolve incidents in the production environment. We provide responsive support to both Data and Finance teams and have developed a monitoring tool to facilitate the detection, analysis, and resolution of data issues.

Streamlining Management Consolidation with Power BI - Digital Services
Following a FP&A project focused on sales and income statement analysis, we worked on a solution to simplify the management consolidation process, covering:
- Balance Sheet
- Income Statement
- Notes to the Financial Statements
- Cash Flow Statement
- Consolidation adjustments: intercompany eliminations, finance leases, goodwill
- Notes: fixed asset reconciliation tables, equity movements
- Definition of a standard workbook for adjustment calculations and a capture zone for ingestion by the Power Query robot
- Creation of an intermediate cube ("Adjustments & Notes") within the Consolidation Dataset via Power Query
- Concatenation of the aggregated accounting cube with the adjustments and notes to form a Consolidation Cube containing both accounting data and consolidation entries
- Development of a currency conversion engine compliant with group exchange rate rules, retrieving rates directly from the ERP (SAP)

We designed a dedicated Power BI mobile application to support financial performance management.
The goal? To enable the group’s Finance leaders to access their key indicators at a glance—directly from their smartphones.
The project originated from a specific need expressed by the CFO: to quickly visualize high-level data without having to log into a desktop computer. Thanks to a robust Power BI semantic model already in place, we were able to focus our efforts on optimizing the mobile experience.
We began by identifying the key performance indicators to include in the app:

Optimizing FP&A Processes Through Power BI Integration with SAP S/4 - Digital Services Sector
As part of a recent engagement, we were tasked with improving the financial reporting and FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) processes of an international group. The objective: to automate, secure, and accelerate the production of financial statements and budget analyses.
We implemented an FP&A dataset connected to SAP S/4’s universal table ACDOCA via an ODBC connector hosted on a gateway. This architecture enables real-time retrieval of transaction-level data across the consolidated scope.
